Hawthorn Hills
urban farmhouse

The landscape of this recently constructed urban farmhouse in Seattle’s Hawthorn Hills Neighborhood incorporates areas for rest and connection. A fire circle in the backyard is hugged by a mixture of native and adaptive species. Aligned with the great room window it creates a strong visual composition and connection between inside and out. It is adjacent to a patio large enough to comfortably sit a table of ten. Backyard lawn is flanked and centered on a row of Natchez Crape Myrtle, which over time will provide screening and will bloom with their characteristic white poofs of flowers in the summer. The frontage driveway is flanked with by porous pavers, who’s patten reference the running bond pattern accents of the home. A small lawn wraps around the font raingarden or bioretention cell, providing a perch above the sidewalk, while dense planting provides a mixture of textures and colors which hold interest through the winter months.
